Tweedle & Brown jail break
|
In October of 2008 Johnny Mack Brown and Micheal Tweedell escaped from Hayes Prison near the town of Trion, in Chattooga County, Georgia.
Brown was captured in November but Tweedell remained on the run into Febuary of 2009. During this period the jail break and ensueing manhunt were topics of great interest in North West Georgia.. The oil painting shown here is a dramatization of the manhunt following the escape. After the capture the ballad of "Run Tweedell" was written by Don Jennings and is included below. |

Run Tweedell
the ballad by Don Jennings, AKA the Don of Rockcastle County, probably author of "Searching For A Level Headed Girl", and other questionable literature. Sung to the tune of, Dooley. Tweedell was a working man, got stuck in Hays CI. His whole family wrote him off. They thought in jail he'd die. But, with a friend in tow, the barb wire he did climb, Made a dash through the woods, and got away just fine. Tweedell, slipping up a holler, Tweedell, hadn't got a dollar, Tweedell, cops gonna foller You for all your days. Tweedell made it all the way to Atlanta town, Caught up with some buddies, and did some throwing down. Tweedell stayed out 4 long months, but in the end succumbed, They caught him at his girlfriend's house cause Tweedell was Tweedell dumb. Tweedell, slipping up a holler, Tweedell, hadn't got a dollar, Tweedell, the cops gonna foller You for all your days. |
